shougang speeds up finishing roll changing

in spite of the current epidemic, shougang has focused on strengthening lean management of key links and promoting technological innovation. in february this year, shougang’s fastest roll-changing time of the finishing rolling gear on the 2160 production line achieved 9.75 minutes, saving 5.8 minutes on average for single roll changing and increasing potential annual output by more than 78,000 tons. its level of control of roll-rolling on the finishing mill has reached china’s advanced level.

in order to promote technological innovation, specifically the new kinetic energy of hot-rolling production lines, the hot-rolling department's finishing roll-changing team is highly committed to independent innovation, further refining the content of key research, and forming equipment, process, and production key research groups. the equipment research group targets four main aspects: machinery, medium, electrical and automation, clearly laying out individual responsibilities within the team to achieve equipment transformation, process optimization, and production operations. the group made a comprehensive analysis and comparison of more than 1,000 pieces of recent roll change data on the 2160 production line’s finishing rolling, and filtered out typical roll changing problems from this large amount of data.

the 2160 production line has a total of 6 finishing mills, each of which includes 17 sets of equipment such as step pads, support rolls, bending rolls, work roll locking baffles, and so on. changing work rolls requires is a process that must be carried out in a specific sequence, due to the large number of automatic detection components and complex equipment movement controls. therefore, improving the level of maintenance on the finishing rolling equipment has become a key task in for cutting down on time spent changing the finishing rolls.

after 6 months of hard work and effective cooperation, the team had traced and tested over 200 instances of roll changing using oee tools. they carefully combed the steps required in roll changing, the speed of each piece of equipment and worked out the steel time node standard. they also calculated and inferred how to choose the steel time node based on the equipment action time. thanks to the team’s constant hard work, the steps required to change the 2160 finishing roll has been reduced to 36 steps, down from 45 steps originally. they also added 253 new function blocks, 61 paragraphs of c script language editing, and optimized 12 pieces of major content and 1,546 individual points. the steps involved in roll changing the speed of movement of each device have been finely controlled, gradually shortening roll change time in the finishing rolling lines.

during the epidemic prevention and control period, the team processed the increasing quantity of data via a range of different approaches. some team members were unable to work at the post because of the epidemic, at the same time as the roll-changing research was entering its final leg. in order to guarantee continued progress, members used modern communication methods to strengthen communication and exchange; "ill keep an eye on the data you need." during the automation inspection, pei bang took on multiple roles beyond the normal scope of his job, and actively cooperated with colleagues to complete data tracking tasks. he examined the reasons for detection component failures from multiple perspectives and worked constantly to optimize and summarize installation methods, fault detection and program chains, finally forming a database for roll-changing research to ensure continuous research. professional team members fan jianxin, wu changjie and li jiexiang provided technical guidance and broke down the optimized points and tasks quickly. xu wei, a medium inspector, proposed improvements to the bending roll modeelectrical inspector pu shenghui continued to demonstrate the improvement of the axis positioning speed; mechanical inspector li huisheng demonstrated the non-relevance of the timing of the removal of the trolley; mechanical inspector wang yilin made suggestions on the early movement of the car hook and the production organizer wang zhandong shared the best roll-changing practices from various teams and groups, so that all roll-changing teams can move forward together, seamlessly connect all links and steadily improve the quality of various types of data.
